It was March 14, 2005...
I was a stay-at-home mom with a 4-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. My husband was a homebuilder and had just started his own company. He was working incredibly long hours without a regular paycheck and without health insurance for our family. It was looking like I would have to return to my retail job in order to make enough money to cover the cost of health insurance, which we definitely needed for our young family.
After weighing the cost of daycare, lost time with my kids, and commuting expenses, I came to the conclusion that I needed to find something that I could do from home that would work around my children’s schedule. I had seen and appreciated Scentsy products at one of my friend’s homes, but I wasn’t quite sure about the business side of it. After looking up Scentsy online, I broke down and called the main office in Meridian, Idaho to ask them some questions. After talking with them for about 30 minutes, I was certain that this was a company I wanted to represent. I signed up over the phone and began figuring out how to earn enough money from home to pay our insurance bill, which was just over $500 per month. Back then, I had to learn everything pretty much on my own, so that is what I set out to do. I wanted to learn everything I could about Scentsy, and the best way to learn was to start working.
I began by talking with all of my friends about Scentsy and letting them know of the benefits of a “candle” that did not present a fire danger or produce nasty soot. It wasn’t long before my friends were purchasing the product, and some were even asking to join my team so they could sell Scentsy as well.
Over the past 13 years, I have dedicated my time to not only selling Scentsy, but to building a great Scentsy team. I pride myself in providing great customer service to my customers as well as providing real world guidance and training to every member of my team. Because of this, my original goal of paying our insurance each month has turned it into our family’s ENTIRE income! When the housing market crash came in 2008, it hurt my husbands income greatly. Fortunately, my Scentsy business was able to carry our family through that hardship. As a matter of fact, my husband eventually got out of the homebuilding business and now works with me full time on our Scentsy business.
Because of our Scentsy business, we have both been able to work from home and spend time with our kids while they were growing up. My husband was able to take his turn at being “Mr. Mom” and tells me all the time at how lucky he feels that he had that time with our kids. Our son is now 20 and our daughter is 17, and they both know how lucky we all were that we were able to spend so much time together as a family.
